Juneteenth Closing and Curbside Recycling Schedule

The Tompkins County Department of Recycling and Materials Management office will be closed on Thursday, June 19^th in honor of Juneteenth.

However, the Recycling and Solid Waste Center will be open its regular hours, 7:00am to 3:30pm. Curbside recycling collection and Food Scraps Recycling Drop Spots will follow a normal schedule.

Juneteenth is an important holiday commemorating the emancipation of slaves in the United States. The holiday serves as a reminder of delayed justice for African Americans and many other persecuted groups in our country. Tompkins County officially recognized Juneteenth as a County holiday in 2022.

2025 HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

The mission of the Department of Recycling and Materials Management is to develop and implement a sustainable materials management strategy for Tompkins County. With a focus on the state’s solid waste management hierarchy, this approach utilizes and prioritizes environmentally sound, cost-effective, socially responsible, and safe practices. This is accomplished through coordinated administrative, operational, and educational programs that maximize diversion with the 4R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rethink) as a focal point.
