RecycleTompkins.Org Gets New Look, New Features

Don’t Miss Your Recycling Day Again!

RecycleTompkins.org, the website of the Tompkins County Department of Recycling and Materials Management, has been updated with a fresh look and new tools designed to make finding information about recycling easy and convenient.

Visitors to the website will appreciate the new “Find My Recycling Day” tool on the home page. This new feature, powered by ReCollect Systems, allows residents to type in their address to display a customized calendar with all of their upcoming pickup dates. The tool also allows users to sign up to receive automated reminders via phone, text, or email; print a copy of their calendar; or embed their recycling schedule into the calendar app of their choice (including Google Calendar and iCal). Residents are also encouraged to sign up for service alerts so they can be notified about delays and cancellations due to weather or other changes in the recycling pickup schedule.
Another exciting addition to the front page is the “What Do I Do With…” feature. This tool allows users to search for information about reuse, recycling, composting, and disposal options for virtually any household material. It also enables residents to ‘suggest’ an item be included if the search turns up empty.

The new website also contains much of the same information and functions as previously, including the ability to purchase solid waste permits and disposal coupons and punch cards online and to register for a Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Event at the Recycling and Solid Waste Center.

“We’re excited to be able to offer our customers and residents of Tompkins County this new website,” said Recycling and Materials Management Director Barbara Eckstrom. “Just think… by utilizing these upgraded features you’ll never miss your recycling pick up day again.”

RecycleTompkins.org also sports a more attractive and mobile-friendly design, created by graphic design and website development firm Flourish Design Studio of Ithaca, New York.
