CCE Tompkins Ends Leaf Swap Due to Invasive Insect

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County will discontinue its annual “leaf swap” this year due to the presence of the invasive Jumping Earthworm in our area, which CCE staff believes can be further spread by the sharing of leaves between infected and non-infected properties.

While the jumping worms themselves may not be present in leaves, their tiny eggs may be, and they could be spread between properties this way.  You’ll find more information about the jumping worm, here: http://ccetompkins.org/resources/jumping-worm-fact-sheet
