Groton Drop Spot Now Open
New Food Scraps Recycling Drop Spot Opens in Groton
Open Saturdays on Conger Blvd Beginning September 7th
(Ithaca, NY) The Tompkins County Department of Recycling and Materials Management (TCRMM) is pleased to announce a new Food Scraps Recycling Drop Spot will open this September in partnership with the Town of Groton.
The drop spot, staffed by an attendant, will operate every Saturday from 9 to 11am at the Town Clerk’s Office at 101 Conger Boulevard beginning September 7th.
The program accepts all food scraps — including meat, bones, and dairy products — as well as food-soiled paper towels and napkins. Coffee grounds, filters, and tea bags are also accepted.
“This will be our 15th drop spot,” said TCRMM Director Barbara Eckstrom, “and the first to be located in Groton. Our goal remains 20 spots by the year 2020.”
“Recycling food scraps offers a clean, comfortable and convenient way for residents to expand recycling opportunities while reducing disposal costs,” added Waste Reduction and Recycling Specialist Seth Dennis. “We want to thank the Town of Groton for their part in helping grow this program.”
The material collected is delivered to Cayuga Compost in Trumansburg, where it’s processed into compost and sold as a soil amendment.
